Tereza Valentova Outlasts Elina Svitolina in an Uplifting Thriller at Cincinnati
Elina Svitolina vs Tereza Valentova · Round 2 · Cincinnati Tennis.com - A nail-biting encounter...

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell short in their series against the Miami Marlins, despite a quality start from Paul Skenes. The Marlins took an early lead with two solo homers in the top of the 2nd inning, courtesy of Heriberto Hernandez and Joe Mack.
The Pirates managed to get on the board in the bottom of the 4th, with Jake Mangum's RBI single off Max Meyer. However, the Marlins pulled ahead in the top of the 8th, with four straight hits against Brandan Bidois, including runs-scoring hits from Kyle Stowers and Xavier Edwards.
In the bottom of the 9th, Bryan Reynolds hit a 422-foot home run to center field off Pete Fairbanks, but it was too little, too late for the Pirates. The Marlins took the series 4-2.
The Pirates have now lost the last six games in which Paul Skenes has started, with Skenes going 0-4 during that stretch. Their next game is on Monday night against the Athletics, with Jared Jones taking the mound for Pittsburgh.
