Police officers in Peru came up with an innovative plan to catch a suspected drug dealer. Two officers dressed up as World Cup mascots, allowing them to approach their target without arousing suspicion.
The operation took place during the World Cup, with the officers using their disguises to their advantage. They were able to capture Carlos Cabrera, a 48-year-old suspected drug dealer, with the help of their creative costumes.
According to Colonel Carlos Alcántara, the head of the Green Squadron, a unit that combats common crime, the officers used intelligence to their advantage. They realized that Cabrera was a huge football fan and used this information to plan their sting operation.
The officers, dressed as the mascots Clutch and Maple, used a metal sledgehammer to break down a door and gain entry to the location. Clutch is a bald eagle representing the United States, while Maple is a moose representing Canada.
During the operation, the police found 2,524 packets of cocaine base and a gun. The micro-trafficking of drugs in Peru is punishable by three to seven years in prison when a person is found with five to 50 grams of cocaine base.
This is not the first time that Peruvian police have used creative disguises to catch suspects. In the past, they have dressed up as fictional movie characters such as the Grinch, Freddy Krueger, Deadpool, and Wolverine, as well as Santa Claus.
In a unique operation, police in Peru disguised themselves as World Cup mascots to arrest a suspected drug dealer, highlighting their creative approach to law enforcement.
