When interviewed by Rolling Stone in 2022, Keith discussed the profound impact of his hometown on his work. "I was born into this shit and raised in this shit," he said, speaking about the city's influential hip-hop scene. "Memphis music is all I listened to and all my family listened to. My stepfather who I am still close with really influenced my taste for music."" The artist emphasized the significance of giving back to his community, highlighting his collaborations with the National Museum of African-American Music.
In 2018, the world of hip-hop was forever changed with the release of Travis Scott's 'Sicko Mode.' The track, which featured a signature blend of atmospheric synths and 808 drums, was the brainchild of 22-year-old producer Tay Keith. Little did anyone know that this was only the beginning of a remarkable journey for the then-relatively unknown producer.
Born Brytavious Chambers on September 20, 1996, in Memphis, Tennessee, Tay Keith began making beats at the age of 14. Growing up in one of America's most influential hip-hop cities, Keith was heavily influenced by the likes of Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG. As his skills improved, he started to develop a signature sound that would eventually catch the attention of artists like Drake and BlocBoy JB.
In 2018, Keith's work with BlocBoy JB started to gain traction beyond their local Memphis scene. The breakout single 'Look Alive' featuring Drake became a certified hit, with Keith's production style being praised for its innovative blend of melodic elements and heavy 808s. As if this wasn't enough, Keith also co-produced Travis Scott's 'Sicko Mode,' which went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 and earn a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song.

With a career spanning less than five years, Tay Keith's influence on the hip-hop landscape is undeniable. His work with artists like Travis Scott, Future, and Beyoncé has helped shape the sound of contemporary hip-hop. However, it's not just his innovative production style that makes him stand out - it's also his commitment to giving back to his community.
"I'm working with the city of Memphis where I'm from, to partner up with a lot of the programs to basically help the children in our communities. I was raised in Section 8, I was raised with a single mom majority of my life. I have been put out. I've been in situations where we had to get government assistance. I had free lunch and food stamps my whole life. I had to overcome a lot of adversity growing up and I made it a mission to be able to show the youth that it's possible. I always motivate the kids, the young producers who reach out to me and want advice. I never hesitate to talk to them," Keith said in an interview.
Tay Keith's untimely death at 29 has left behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. As the hip-hop world continues to evolve, it's clear that his innovative style and commitment to giving back to his community will be an inspiration to generations of producers to come. As Keith once said, "You can always go to school and college, but also, you can chase your dreams too." This mantra has guided his life and career, and it will undoubtedly continue to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.
