Iowa State Fair Kicks Off with Excitement and Anticipation
The Iowa State Fair is officially underway, bringing with it a plethora of exciting events,...

The highly anticipated "Fifty Something Tour" kicked off in Los Angeles with an electrifying performance from Rush, featuring their dynamic new touring drummer, Anika Nilles. Adding to the night's magic, singer-songwriter Aimee Mann made a surprise appearance, joining Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson for a poignant rendition of "Time Stand Still." Mann's ethereal vocals blended perfectly with the band, marking their first live performance of the track together, decades after her original studio collaboration.
Amidst the performance, with touring keyboardist Loren Gold expertly handling synths and Nilles masterfully executing the intricate drum parts, the stage screens displayed a moving tribute to the late drumming legend Neil Peart, who passed away in 2020. As Geddy Lee delivered Peart's deeply personal lyrics – "Summer’s going fast / Nights growing colder / Children growing up / Old friends growing older / Experience slips away" – the audience was treated to evocative visuals of Peart's cherished motorcycle journeying through landscapes, culminating in a celestial constellation forming his iconic image behind the drum kit.
An earlier, equally powerful tribute to Peart came with the 1991 track "Bravado." The song was introduced by an audio clip of Peart sharing his life philosophy, emphasizing the importance of retaining one's inner youth. This played alongside a captivating video montage showcasing the drummer's life. By the time Lee reached the poignant lyric, "And if the music stops / There’s only the sound of the rain," the emotional impact was palpable, with many fans visibly moved.
The two-set concert, complete with an intermission, delivered a string of thrilling surprises. From a flawless "Xanadu" opening to the band's first rendition of "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" since 2004, the night was a testament to Rush's enduring legacy. Anika Nilles quickly won over the crowd, visibly radiating joy as she impeccably recreated the iconic drum fills on "Tom Sawyer."
