Senator John Cornyn, the Texas Republican, remains uncertain about President Donald Trump's attorney general nominee after a recent meeting.
Although he described the meeting with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche as 'positive,' Cornyn expressed his reservations about the settlement that Blanche negotiated, which barred the Internal Revenue Service from investigating Trump's and his family's taxes.
Cornyn wrote in an X post, 'Had a positive interview with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who has been nominated for the Senate-confirmed job by @POTUS. He committed to further briefing on the tax audit issue involving President Trump and his family. I will not make a decision on confirmation until after that briefing and completion of his hearing before the committee.'
Blanche will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee next month, facing an uphill battle to win confirmation from a group of hostile Democrats and skeptical Republicans, who are concerned about his role in the settlement and the resulting compensation fund for so-called victims of government weaponization.
