Shaboozey Recalls the Moment "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" Exploded: "I Just Rode the Wave"

It's hard to imagine a world without Shaboozey's viral sensation, "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." This hit single, built on an interpolation of J-Kwon's 2004 party anthem "Tipsy" and featuring a catchy acoustic rhythm, has transcended mere popularity to become a genuine pop culture milestone.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Shaboozey reflected on the song's release on April 12, 2024. He recalled the immediate, overwhelming response from listeners on streaming platforms.

"Within the first 10 minutes of it coming out, it was having 100,000 streams on Spotify. My team, my managers, were making bets: 'Oh, it's gonna get a million in a week!' and I'm watching it, and I'm like, 'This is about to get a million in 24 hours,'" Shaboozey revealed.

He first performed the song live shortly after its release during a show in the desert with Charli XCX. "No one knew the song, no one knew what was going on," he said. "It just kind of just kept climbing, and I just rode the wave. It was really like surfing."

"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" initially climbed the country charts before crossing over to the Hot 100. It impressively held the number one spot for 19 non-consecutive weeks, a record at the time, eventually sharing it with Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" before Mariah Carey's holiday hit took the top position.

Shaboozey is gearing up to release his new album, "The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales," on July 31. He recently dropped the upbeat single "Cowgirl," which echoes the infectious energy of "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" and features a music video starring Ciara Miller from Bravo's "Summer House."
