South Korea Confronts Flaws in Major Concert Management

BTS recently performed two sold-out concerts at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium in South Korea, bringing in approximately 220,000 fans over two days as part of their ongoing 'Arirang' world tour.

Although the concerts concluded without major safety incidents, they drew attention to some long-standing issues surrounding major K-pop concerts, including crowd management, accommodation pricing, and illegal ticket resales.

The most immediate controversy arose on the opening night, when the concert began about 75 minutes late due to delays in audience entry.

According to the group's management team, Hybe, multiple factors contributed to the delay, including confusion surrounding on-site guidance, congestion at fan gift distribution areas, and delays in merchandise and package collection.

Festival-goers who attended the concert described long lines and difficulties navigating the venue.

Some attendees pointed out a lack of multilingual guidance despite the large international audience.

The delays in entry occurred despite a massive safety operation involving thousands of personnel, including event staff, government officials, police officers, firefighters, and public agency employees.

Accommodation-related complaints also emerged ahead of the concerts. According to data from the Korea Tourism Data Lab, Busan accounted for the majority of complaints filed nationwide in May, with more than 80 percent coming from foreign visitors.

A joint survey found that average accommodation prices near the concert venue were significantly higher than normal weekend rates, with some properties increasing prices by up to 7.5 times.

Ringkasan

BTS' recent concerts in Busan highlight issues with crowd management, accommodation prices, and ticket scalping.
