SpaceX Surges Past Amazon to Fifth Spot, Elon Musk's Net Worth Exceeds $1.4 Trillion

Elon Musk's fortune has skyrocketed to over $1.4 trillion after SpaceX shares extended their rally in their second full trading day.

This has ranked Musk's rocket maker ahead of Amazon as the world's fifth-largest company by market value.

SpaceX shares rose by over 10% shortly after trading opened on Tuesday, raising its market value to approximately $2.77 trillion and overtaking Amazon ($2.6 trillion) in the rankings.

This significant price surge marks a nearly 35% increase in SpaceX's stock value since its initial public offering on Friday, where shares closed up 19%. The company's stock then surged another 19.5% on Monday.

The latest increase in SpaceX shares added a staggering $119.1 billion to Musk's net worth, which is now valued at around $1.4 trillion. This catapults Musk more than $1 trillion ahead of Google co-founder Larry Page ($300.7 billion), who Forbes ranks as the world's second-richest person.

Musk holds 4.8 billion SpaceX shares, which equate to roughly 38% of the company. He also holds an additional 350 million stock options with an exercisable price of $8.40 per share.

SpaceX is poised to challenge Microsoft as the fourth-largest company, with Microsoft boasting a market value of $2.92 trillion. Apple holds the next largest spot with a market capitalization of $4.3 trillion, followed closely by Alphabet at $4.4 trillion, before Nvidia takes the top spot with a market value of $5 trillion.

SpaceX announced on Monday that it plans to acquire the AI coding platform Cursor's parent company, Anysphere, for $60 billion. The acquisition is expected to close by Q3 2026. The partnership between SpaceX and Cursor, announced in April, will focus on 'coding and knowledge work AI,' with SpaceX reserving the right to buy Cursor outright for $10 billion or pay a maximum of $60 billion.

The rapid rise in SpaceX shares follows its record-breaking stock debut last week, fueled by unprecedented investor demand that pushed its initial public offering to $85 billion. Musk has ambitions for SpaceX to reach $1 trillion in revenue by 2030, a far cry from its $18.7 billion in revenue for all of 2025. Despite a net loss of $4.9 billion in 2025 and $4.28 billion in its latest quarter, some analysts have disputed SpaceX's market valuation, including 'Big Short' investor Michael Burry, who claimed there was 'nothing' in SpaceX's IPO paperwork that suggested the company was worth $1 trillion or even $2 trillion.
