Stephen Kolek Pitches Perfect Game, Royals Take Win Over Astros

Stephen Kolek dominated on the mound, leading the Royals to a win over the Astros on Sunday.

With a performance for the ages, Kolek earned his fourth win of the season, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out four over 7.1 scoreless innings.

What stands out in Kolek's performance is the effectiveness he showed in getting batters out. He threw 63 of his 97 pitches for strikes, generating 12 whiffs in the process. The right-hander showed impressive control, retiring 11 of 12 batters during the middle innings and even worked out of a seventh-inning jam by inducing a double play with runners on first and second.

Kolek is quickly becoming one of the top pitchers in the league, holding opponents to two or fewer runs in five of his last six starts. He's now lowered his season ERA to 2.68, accompanied by a 1.03 WHIP and a 34:10 K:BB ratio across 50.1 innings.

Kolek's next appearance is scheduled against the Cardinals.
