Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' Falls Flat

The real problem with Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day is that it's just not good enough.

Sure, as a master of technical filmmaking, Spielberg brings his A-game when it comes to the lights, special effects, and high-octane action set pieces. But beyond those impressive visuals, the storytelling falls flat.

This one of those films where Spielberg indulges in his intellectual pretensions – or at the very least, what he perceives as such. The movie's narrative revolves around a team of whistleblowers who expose the U.S. government's alleged encounters with intelligent life beyond Earth, harkening back to his 1977 classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Despite the promising setup, the film fails to deliver, even against the backdrop of a real-world controversy surrounding leaked documents and unverified footage of possible alien encounters.
