Strong Earthquakes Rattle Valencia County, Shaking Residents

A 3.7-magnitude and 3.9 magnitude earthquake occurred Sunday in Valencia County, according to the United States Geological Survey, or USGS.

The epicenter of the first earthquake was near Abeytas, NM, which is about 10 miles from Jarales.

The epicenter of the second earthquake was in nearby Las Nutrias, NM.

Residents in Belen, Rio Communities and Los Lunas may have also felt the quake around 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

A 2.7 magnitude and 2.9 magnitude quake were reported later in the day west of the first two quakes.

A spokesperson with the Valencia County Fire Department says there is no reported damage or injuries at this time.
