The Ultimate Showdown: Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways - Which Wins in Lounge Experience?

When it comes to lounge experience, the competition between Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways is fierce. But which one comes out on top?

It's largely a personal preference, and readers may have their own favorites based on their experiences. Passengers value different things, and with multiple types of lounges offered by each carrier, it's tough to generalize an overall best.

However, Qatar Airways may take the crown in some rankings, but for many, it's the most exclusive experience. In reality, the 'best' lounge is the one you can access.

Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad are among the largest mainline Gulf state airlines, each offering excellent service and long-haul networks. Between them, there are as many widebody aircraft in service as in the United States, with larger aircraft like the Airbus A380 dominating the skies.

Skytrax, a respected airline ranker, ranked Qatar Airways as the best airline overall in 2025, while Emirates took fourth place. Etihad trailed behind at 26th. Not only did Qatar Airways excel in overall rankings, but also in subcategories like premium economy service and in-flight catering.

The best independent airport lounges in the world featured Plaza Premium in Rome and the Chase Sapphire Lounge at New York-LaGuardia, but the airport hubs of Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Etihad didn't make the cut. However, Primeclass Lounge at Muscat and The Pearl Lounge at Bahrain Airport did.

One interesting list is the World's Best Airport Services 2025 ranking, which evaluates customer satisfaction with an airline's staff service at its hub airport. Qatar Airways took the 13th highest global rating, followed by Emirates at 17th. Etihad didn't make the top 20.

Skytrax also ranked the best airports, with Qatar Airways' Doha Hamad International Airport taking second place in 2025, down from first in 2024. Emirates' Dubai International fell out of the top ten, coming in at 11th globally.

Qatar Airways' lounges offer a premium experience, with access to multiple lounges depending on your class of travel or Privilege Club membership status. As a member of the oneworld alliance, elite Qatar passengers can access hundreds of oneworld lounges worldwide.

Emirates boasts lounges on all six inhabited continents, with some lounges offering paid access. First class passengers enjoy access to the First Class Lounge, while Business Class Saver, Flex, and Flex Plus passengers have access to Business Class Lounges. Other fares may have paid lounge access, with fees ranging from $155 to $300.

Etihad's lounges are stunning, with passengers able to enjoy complimentary lounge access with The Residence, First, or eligible Business tickets. The airline also operates lounges at London-Heathrow, New York-JFK, and Washington-Dulles, with paid access available for economy passengers without premium tickets.

Passengers using the lounges in the hubs are typically transiting as they fly the three airlines' vast networks around the world. Excluding partner airlines, Qatar Airways boasts the largest network, serving around 170 destinations worldwide. Emirates has a network of around 133 destinations, while Etihad serves around 120.
