Kyle Ross, a high school football coach and English teacher by day, has been pursuing his passion for music alongside his full-time job. As the lead singer and founding member of the Oklahoma-based group Keyland, Ross has been quietly building a reputation in the Red Dirt scene, a genre characterized by its fusion of country, rock, and Americana sounds.
Keyland's latest album, Knuckle Sandwich, marks a turning point for the group. With this third studio album, Ross has shifted his strategy from releasing music solely through streaming platforms to making tangible copies of his music available for fans to purchase at live shows. This decision reflects his growing confidence in Keyland's music and his commitment to connecting with audiences on a more personal level.
“I’ve put music out before, but this feels different,” Ross says. “I’ve got real, tangible vinyl to sell. It’s been fun to blue-collar, ma-and-pa them. People are sending me their address, and I’m sending them out. I just want more shows on the books and to spread the good word of Knuckle Sandwich.”
Keyland has been gaining momentum in recent months, thanks in part to their performances at notable venues in Oklahoma, including Tulsa's Cain's Ballroom. The band's high-energy live shows and catchy songwriting have resonated with fans, contributing to their growing buzz in the Red Dirt scene.
