A 13-year-old boy in Marg, Cairo, Egypt, tragically passed away after consuming three raw packs of instant noodles. Before his untimely demise, the boy experienced severe stomach pain and vomiting that lasted for half an hour.
According to a report from the Cairo Safety Department, the boy, Hamza, died without any visible signs of external violence or injury. An investigation revealed that the incident led to a severe illness that ultimately caused his death. The Public Prosecutor ordered the arrest of the shop owner who sold the instant noodles to the boy.
A sample of the instant noodle product was sent for testing. Meanwhile, Hamza's body was taken for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.
His father reported that the boy started vomiting, sweating, and experiencing severe stomach pain within 30 minutes of consuming the instant noodles. Hamza was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors suspected food poisoning.
According to Ynet News, Hamza's family was instructed to transfer him to a toxicology center. Unfortunately, Hamza passed away on his way to the hospital on August 16, 2025.
Medical tests did not detect any presence of medication or illicit substances in his body. Initial findings revealed that the product met standard specifications.
These results suggest that Hamza's death might have been caused by excessive consumption of raw instant noodles, which can lead to severe health complications, including acute intestinal problems or intestinal obstruction.
A study explains that consuming raw instant noodles can cause gastrointestinal issues, increase the risk of intestinal blockage, and food poisoning if the product is contaminated or stored improperly.
However, the Egyptian National Nutrition Institute reported that there is no scientific evidence to prove that instant noodles directly cause death.
"The incident may be related to misuse or a specific condition such as improper storage," according to the report.
