Tragic Discovery in Mechanicsville Home: Mother of Two Found Dead, Ex-Boyfriend Identified as Suspect

A devastating tragedy occurred in Mechanicsville, Virginia, when a 45-year-old woman, Kristen Michelle Moolhuyzen, was found dead in her home with severe head trauma.

The Hanover Sheriff's Office received a call around 8 p.m. on Friday, and upon investigation, they identified the suspect as Daniel Aaron Geiges, Moolhuyzen's 44-year-old ex-boyfriend from Goochland.

Using evidence from the scene, 911 calls, and Ring doorbell video, investigators quickly linked Geiges to the crime.

Geiges' vehicle was located at his apartment in Goochland, and search warrants were obtained for both the victim's and suspect's residences.

On Saturday, at approximately 7 a.m., the Virginia State Police executed a search warrant at Geiges' residence, where he was found dead.

This incident is considered unusual for the area, as the county had no homicides last year.

The sheriff's office confirmed that Moolhuyzen had obtained a protective order against Geiges in 2021 following a domestic assault incident.

Moolhuyzen was a dedicated and loving mother of two, and her death has sent shockwaves through the community.

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is still collecting evidence and has not announced the cause of death for either the victim or the suspect.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Hanover County Sheriff's Office or Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers.
