Trump Wants to Open Hormuz at Any Price

The US wants to open the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed after the US-Israel attack on Iran.

President Donald Trump has given his administration the opportunity to prioritize the reopening of the strait over reaching an agreement with Iran, with the promise that Washington is prepared to pay any price for the reopening.

Blackstone Compliance Director David Tannenbaum believes that the Trump administration is 'desperate to get out of this war' and that their 'sole focus now is opening the strait.'

He added, 'I'm starting to wonder if Iran's nuclear program is now in the bargaining process.' US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Trump wants an agreement, with the main focus being the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while other issues can be discussed later.

President Trump has vowed to revive the 'Freedom Project' if an agreement with Iran is not reached soon. The project aims to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, but was halted on Tuesday following Saudi-Kuwaiti rejection of US military aircraft access to their airspace.

Currently, at least 1,500 ships and 22,000 people are stranded around the Strait of Hormuz due to the blockade by Iran and the US, with the US intercepting 57 vessels and incapacitating four ships bound for or originating from Iran. The crisis has caused global oil prices to surge.

The US has deployed the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason as the main assets for the blockade against Iran, with President Trump saying, 'We will move in a new direction if there is no signature.'

The negotiations between the US and Iran will resume next week, with the US Vice President JD Vance visiting Qatar to discuss negotiations with Iran.

Ringkasan
