Unfolding Drama at the FIFA World Cup 2026: A Thrilling Conclusion to Group Stage Action

England, Portugal, and Argentina are in action, with plenty still to play for across all three groups in the final round of action before the knockouts.

The final round of group games at the men’s FIFA World Cup will take place on Saturday (27 June), as the round of 32 bracket is finalised.

Action comes to a head in Groups L, K, and J. Starting with the former, there is still all very much to play for. England, currently top of the table on goal difference and seeking to keep top place ahead of the knockouts, take on already-eliminated Panama. The two met eight years ago in this competition, where the Three Lions won 6-1. Elsewhere, Croatia and Ghana battle it out in what is a first-ever football meeting between the nations. Regardless of what happens, this group looks poised to have a third-place team progress to the round of 32.

In Group K, Colombia have already confirmed their place in the knockouts after winning their first two games. They take on second-placed Portugal in the third outing, making this a decider for the top spot. Narrowly behind them is DR Congo, whose goal difference may well limit them to the third spot in the event of a win, which is what they need if they are to be in with a chance of advancing. The African nation face debutants Uzbekistan, in search of a maiden point on this stage.

Rounding out the group stage action will be Group J, where defending champions Argentina are already assured of a place in the last 32. Their third encounter will come against debutants Jordan, who have been mathematically eliminated from the competition. On three points apiece, Austria and Algeria face off for the second guaranteed spot. Pending results elsewhere..
