USA vs. Australia: Don't Miss the World Cup Group D Match

The United States and Australia face off in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, vying for first place in Group D on June 10.

The 2026 World Cup, expanded to 48 nations, will run from June 11 until July 19. The tournament will be held in 16 cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The top two teams from each group, along with the top eight third-place finishers, will advance to the knockout phase (Round of 32).

The USMNT made a strong statement in their opening match in Los Angeles, defeating Paraguay 4-1. Folarin Balogun scored a first-half brace, with Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie contributing to an early own goal. Gio Reyna capped the dominant performance with a stunning finish.

Three MLS players featured for head coach Mauricio Pochettino's side, with goalkeeper Matt Freese (New York City FC) and defender Tim Ream (Charlotte FC) starting. Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps FC) substituted in for Pulisic at halftime to address a calf injury.

With a win at Seattle Sounders FC's home stadium, the US will move atop Group D and increase their chances of advancing to the Round of 32. They will conclude group-stage play vs. Türkiye on June 25 in Los Angeles.

Australia stunned Türkiye with a 2-0 victory, demonstrating a strong defensive display and goals from Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe.

New York City FC midfielder Aiden O’Neill played a full 90 minutes for the Socceroos against Türkiye. They kept Arda Güler and Hakan Çalhanoğlu under wraps. O'Neill is among the three MLS players on Australia's squad, along with NYCFC teammate Kai Trewin and Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington.

Australia aims to reach their third-ever World Cup knockout berth, having made the Round of 16 in 2006 and 2022. They will finish Group D play on June 25 vs. Paraguay.
