Michael Gavshon, a veteran 60 Minutes producer, has announced his departure from CBS News after 34 years with the network.
According to The New York Post, Gavshon made the decision to leave due to the turmoil and leadership issues currently affecting CBS News.
In a memo to his colleagues, Gavshon wrote, 'Thirty-four of my forty-one years at CBS News have been at 60 Minutes. The old chestnut, I have stood on the shoulders of giants, couldn't be more true.'
Gavshon's departure comes on the heels of a number of high-profile exits from CBS News, including that of correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega and executive editor Draggan Mihailovich, in May.
Additionally, former 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley lost his job at the newsmagazine after accusing CBS News leadership of 'murdering' the show.
Many within the network have also criticized CBS News leadership, including editor in chief Bari Weiss and corporate parent Paramount Skydance.
The Status newsletter reported that Gavshon was exasperated after CBS News leadership subjected a 60 Minutes segment to unusual editorial feedback.
The segment, an Anderson Cooper report about a White House policy of accepting South African refugees, finally aired in late February, days after Cooper declined to renew his 60 Minutes contract.
Gavshon was reportedly upset by the treatment of his segment, as well as the leadership's decision to renege on an agreement with Cooper.
Critics within the network have accused Weiss and her lieutenants of trying to insert misstatements into stories and undermining the independence of 60 Minutes.
'You have three respected 60 Minutes journalists saying that Bari or her lieutenants have tried to insert misstatements in their stories,' Betsy West, former senior vice president of CBS News, told Variety recently.
'It feels like she and the people she reports to are trying to check the independence of 60 Minutes and ultimately undermine the free press that undergirds our democracy.'
The turmoil and leadership issues at CBS News seem to be ongoing, with many more questions surrounding the network's future.
