Visitors in town for the NBA Finals reported being attacked by people wearing San Antonio Spurs apparel after Game 5. The incident occurred as visitors were returning to their downtown hotel after the game, in which the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs to win the NBA championship.
A 29-year-old man and his father were assaulted at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk. They were getting out of their Uber when they were attacked by at least two unidentified men.
The two unidentified victims were injured, and the older man was taken to a hospital for treatment. The incident happened around 12:30 am at 150 E. Houston St.
This assault comes after videos on social media depicted Spurs fans being physically attacked in New York City, where Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals were played.
Some Spurs players were also subject to physical harassment during their time in New York. Videos show hecklers aiming eggs at Spurs star Victor Wembanyama as the team returned to their hotel after Game 4.
Videos of people wearing Spurs apparel appearing to attack people in Knicks gear have been posted online since Saturday's series-deciding Game 5 in San Antonio.
