Exactly one week after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of western Cuba, the region experienced another significant aftershock.
The aftershock, which had a magnitude of 4.9, occurred on Monday, June 15 at 1:37 p.m. in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 61.3 miles west-northwest of Mantua, Pinar del Río, Cuba.
The aftershock was strong enough to cause tremors as far north as Tampa, Florida, and as far south as Marco Island and the Florida Keys.
People in Cancun, Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula and Havana, Cuba also reported feeling the aftershock.
