Merahputih.com - Franco Colapinto, a Formula 2 winner, will take over Loga Sargeant's position at Williams for the remainder of the 2024 F1 season.

This decision was made after Sargeant's disappointing performance, including a high-speed crash during practice at the Dutch Grand Prix, has exhausted the team's patience.

Team Principal James Vowles had considered several candidates for the role, including Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawson, as revealed by Motorsport on Wednesday (28/8).

Williams F1 Considers Replacing Logan Sargeant with Schumacher or Lawson

Ultimately, they decided to give Colapinto, a young driver from the Williams Driver Academy, a chance.

"Replacing a driver in the middle of the season is not a decision we take lightly, but we believe this gives Williams the best chance to compete for points for the rest of the season," said Vowles.

He also stated that this is a great opportunity for Colapinto to prove himself in F1, focusing on improving the team's performance in the midfield.

Colapinto has shown his talent in F3 and F2, including a win in the sprint race at Imola. Despite initial difficulties adapting to the 2024 F2 car, he managed to show a significant improvement.
