This victory made the German tennis player say, 'Even though you're still a kid, you managed to beat us all.'
Two weeks before the French Open, Alcaraz beat Zverev, the world's third-ranked player, 6-3 and 6-1 in 62 minutes to continue his impressive run, showing that tennis has a new rising star.
'It's wonderful to beat such great players. Beating the world's top two players and then Zverev, who's ranked third in the world, is incredible. This is the best week of my life,' said Alcaraz.
Before facing Zverev in the final, Alcaraz, who turned 19 on Thursday (5/5), defeated Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Before the Madrid Open, last year, Alcaraz was ranked 120th in the world. On Monday (9/5), he ranked sixth in the world.
Earlier, Alcaraz became the youngest quarterfinalist in the US Open last September. He then won his first Masters 1000 title in Miami earlier this April.
His win in Madrid Masters earned Alcaraz his second Masters 1000 title. He became the youngest player to win two Masters 1000 titles after Rafael Nadal, who won in Monte Carlo and Rome at the age of 18.
Zverev is confident that Alcaraz will continue to shine.
