Bob Wagner's "Richest Man On Earth" - A Refreshing Take on the Murder Ballad

Bob Wagner offers some wise advice in his latest song, "Richest Man On Earth", which puts a fresh spin on the traditional murder ballad. The track begins with a killing, but not in the classical sense - instead, it's about uninstalling and disconnecting from the noise of social media. Wagner sings, "Didn't shoot him, didn't stab him, not even a black eye / I just stopped paying him attention 'cause I'm too broke to spend my mind / You see, all he wants is all the eyeballs on him all the time / He may elicit some of your affection, but he can't get none of mine." This song is a clever commentary on the toxic nature of social media and the ways in which it can be detrimental to our well-being.

The song is part of Wagner's solo album, "I've Been Down", which features the talented Laur Joamets on pedal steel guitar. Wagner explains the inspiration behind the song, saying, "I was driving home after buying a 100-year-old Oscar Schmidt rubber bridge guitar, and I'd been thinking about writing a murder ballad. The guitar felt like the kind you'd write one on, and when I got home, all I had to do was press record." The song is a powerful exploration of the themes of disconnection and the importance of looking beyond the superficial.

With its catchy melody and thought-provoking lyrics, "Richest Man On Earth" is a must-listen for fans of folk and Americana music. Wagner's unique voice and perspective bring a fresh energy to the genre, and his music is sure to resonate with listeners looking for something new and exciting.
