Charles Leclerc was left disappointed after falling out of the top spots at the Grand Prix in his home turf of Monaco, where a problem with his Ferrari's brakes led to a heartbreaking crash and a failed attempt to secure a podium finish.
Starting from fourth position and initially fighting for second place, a strategic misstep by Ferrari resulted in Leclerc losing his spot, and the subsequent brake failure ultimately led tohim crashing into the wall, leaving him unable to finish the race.
'I wouldn't even blame... This bloody unreliable brake!', Leclerc lamented in his radio immediately after the crash, going on to express his frustration and feeling that his misfortune wasn't his own doing.
'I'm not the kind of driver who makes excuses. I'm always the first to admit when I make a mistake, and I have no problem speaking up. But today, I just couldn't put my thoughts into words,' Leclerc explained. 'I just didn't want to say too much because I might end up saying something I would regret.'
'What happened was unacceptable. The brake issues I experienced in Canada and here have made driving near impossible,' Leclerc described the faulty brake system, which works like a switch that either does nothing or gets stuck completely. 'I've had the exact same issue over the past two weekends.'
This was certainly not the way Leclerc wanted to mark the beginning of his two-year contract extension with Ferrari. You must log in to comment on this news, or consider joining if you're not a member yet.
