Courtney Stodden Responds to "Seinfeld" Star's Meaningful Apology: 'Change Comes from Action'

Courtney Stodden heard Seinfeld star Jason Alexander's sincere apology and is now calling on him to turn words into action. The apology, which came after Stodden publicly spoke out about a 2012 comedy sketch in which Alexander's character made suggestive comments and physically touched her, marked a significant step towards healing for the actress.

Stodden, who rose to fame after marrying Doug Hutchison at the age of 16 in 2011, has been an outspoken advocate for ending child marriage and protecting minors from exploitation. In the sketch, which was part of Funny or Die's The Donny Clay Show, Alexander's character repeatedly rubbed his phone across Stodden's breasts while making light of her minor status.

'I was a minor. I didn't have the legal power to decide whether I wanted to participate,' Stodden wrote on Instagram about the sketch. 'The contracts were signed by adults. The paycheck went to Doug. The production moved forward. I was the only child in the room. I felt so alone.'

Stodden has been open about her experiences with exploitation in the entertainment industry and her efforts to ensure that no child has to go through similar ordeals. She has been advocating for California's pending legislation, AB1267, which aims to effectively ban child marriage, and has also written a memoir and executive produced a biographical drama film about her life for Lifetime.

When asked about what accountability looks like, Stodden stated, 'For me, accountability isn't just about acknowledging the past. It's about helping create a future where no child has to experience what so many of us did.'

Despite Jason Alexander's public apology, Stodden emphasized that a meaningful apology goes beyond just words. 'I believe the most meaningful apology is one that creates change,' she said. 'I would encourage him to support and donate to Unchained At Last, an organization I'm proud to advocate alongside that is leading the fight to end child marriage in the United States.'

As Stodden continues to advocate for her cause, she is now focusing on raising awareness about the pending legislation in California and ensuring that the industry takes steps towards creating a safer environment for its youngest stars. 'This legislation will help prevent young girls like I was from being groomed and exploited by those who seek to profit from their youth,' she said. 'I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that our industry protects its most vulnerable members.'

The industry has a responsibility to acknowledge and rectify its past mistakes, Stodden believes. 'Change comes from action, not just words.' She hopes that Alexander's apology will be the beginning of a new era of accountability and that it will lead to tangible actions that support the rights and safety of minors in the entertainment industry.
