A drone attack has struck the main oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia, which connects the eastern region to the Red Sea, just hours after a ceasefire announcement in the Middle East. According to sources, a pumping facility along the pipeline was targeted, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The East-West pipeline is a crucial infrastructure for Saudi Aramco to transport oil from fields in the Persian Gulf to the port of Yanbu on the Red Sea coast. This pipeline serves as an alternative export route, given the limited access through the Strait of Hormuz.
In recent weeks, Saudi Arabia has increased oil flow through the pipeline to its full capacity, nearing 5 million barrels per day, or around 70% of its pre-war export total.
The attack occurred on the same day as a ceasefire agreement between the US, Israel, and Iran. However, reports indicate that sporadic attacks are still ongoing in some areas.
US President Donald Trump had previously asked Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of the agreement. To date, traffic in the strait remains limited, making the East-West pipeline and exports through Yanbu crucial for global oil supply stability.
