BMKG Chief Teuku Faisal Fatani stated that the El Nino phenomenon will have a moderate to strong intensity.

El Nino is a global climate anomaly that occurs periodically every three to seven years and is monitored by many countries.

However, the condition to be aware of is when El Nino occurs together with the dry season in Indonesia, making the dry season longer and drier than the average condition over the past 30 years.

The BMKG notes that the regions in Indonesia most affected by El Nino are generally located below the equator, such as Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.

Meanwhile, regions like North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Aceh, and northern Kalimantan are said to be less significantly affected.

The government has also started to anticipate the impact of El Nino on national water and food resilience through weather modification operations.
