El Nino has become a global concern due to its impact on weather patterns. Prof Subejo explained that El Nino is a natural climate cycle, but its pattern has become more dynamic and unpredictable due to global warming.

He stated that the term 'Godzilla El Nino' refers to an El Nino event with a much stronger intensity than usual. The impact of this event will be most felt in the agricultural sector, which relies heavily on water supply for production.

Prof Subejo noted that main food crops like rice and corn are the most vulnerable to the impacts of El Nino. These crops require a large amount of water during their growth period.

When water availability decreases, the growth of these crops will be disrupted, and productivity will decline. In more extreme conditions, crops may even suffer permanent damage, leading to crop failures and losses for farmers.

Prof Subejo emphasized that adaptation to climate change must be done by combining local experience and modern innovation. The use of weather information, climate schools, and agricultural technology can help farmers make more informed decisions in the face of uncertain weather patterns.

Ringkasan

El Nino is back in the global spotlight as the surface temperature of the Pacific Ocean rises, affecting weather patterns worldwide. The term 'Godzilla El Nino' has been used to describe the intense El Nino event. According to Prof Subejo, a professor of agriculture at the University of Gadjah Mada, the main impact of El Nino on the agricultural sector is related to the decrease in water availability.
