Italian newspaper Mobilinanews (Mobilinanews) has revealed the shocking news that Jack Doohan's contract with Alpine only covered a few races, not the full season.
As a result, Doohan has returned to being a reserve driver, participating in only six races this season. Unfortunately, his performance was unimpressive, and he even caused damage to his car after a mistake at the Japanese Grand Prix.
The termination of Doohan's contract comes after Team Principal Oliver Oakes stepped down, replaced by the flamboyant Flavio Briatore, Senior Advisor to the French team.
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto has been brought in as a replacement, partnering with Pierre Gasly. However, this collaboration is limited to only five Grand Prix events, starting at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy. His performance will be closely monitored by the team before the British Grand Prix, to decide whether he stays or follows Doohan's destiny.
In their official statement, the team described this change as a 'rotation,' which will prepare them for the 2026 season and provide valuable racing experience.
"Jack Doohan remains an important part of the team. He's our primary reserve driver for this period (Colapinto's testing phase)," the statement reads.
"This rotation is a fair way for us to assess our drivers. It will help us to maximize our team's ambitions for the 2026 season," added Briatore, who led Michael Schumacher to the World Championship with Benetton and Fernando Alonso with Renault (now Alpine).
Colapinto has vowed to make the most of his five-race stint, promising to put in extra effort to prepare for the upcoming events.
"I'll work extra hard to get ready for Imola, just like the next few races," he said.
