Much like the rest of the sports world, the Padres' pitching staff is no stranger to tragedy. In a tough situation, the team has placed their star closer Mason Miller on the bereavement/family medical leave list.
According to Major League Baseball rules, Miller will be required to spend at least the next three days on the list, but can return whenever he is ready.
During Miller's absence, Jason Adam will likely take over as the team's top setup man and top choice for save situations. Despite the setback, Miller has had a phenomenal season so far, boasting an impressive 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and a 59:12 K:BB ratio over 30 innings pitched. He has successfully converted all 19 of his save opportunities this season.
