PBB Warns of El Nino Threat to a 'Fuel-Lit' Planet

The United Nations has issued a warning about the potential impact of El Nino on global climate change. The UN secretary general has called for urgent action to address the crisis, saying that the return of El Nino will add fuel to the fire of a planet that is already burning.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, the chances of El Nino developing in the coming months are high, with a probability of 80% in June and August, and reaching 90% by November.

The UN has urged governments around the world to take immediate action to mitigate the effects of El Nino, which could lead to extreme weather events, droughts, and floods.

The organization has also warned that the impact of El Nino will be felt across the world, with the potential for droughts in Australia, Central America, the Caribbean, northern South America, and parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia.

On the other hand, the southern United States, southern South America, the Horn of Africa, and Central Asia could experience extreme rainfall, leading to floods.

Scientists have been warning of the potential for a strong El Nino event in 2026, which could be one of the strongest on record.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has forecast a 50-50 chance of a 'Super El Nino' event, which would see a temperature anomaly of over 2 degrees Celsius above the average in the eastern Pacific.

BMKG has predicted that El Nino could develop in the second half of 2026, with a probability of between 50% to 80%.

'There's a high chance of it happening in the second semester of 2026,' said Indra Gustari, a senior researcher at BMKG. 'But it's not going to be as severe as the big events in the past.'

Indra emphasized the importance of being vigilant and taking proactive measures to prepare for the potential impacts of El Nino, including droughts, wildfires, and water shortages.

The potential impact of El Nino has sparked concerns among scientists, who have warned that the event could be one of the strongest on record.

The world has seen severe droughts and floods in recent years, and the return of El Nino has raised hopes of breaking the records.
