Prescribed Burns Underway in Sonoma Valley State Parks

California State Parks, in partnership with CALFIRE and the Sonoma Valley Wildlands Collaborative, will conduct prescribed burns in several parks around the Sonoma Valley.

The burns are scheduled to take place on weekdays, as conditions permit, from June 17-30.

The affected parks include Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, Jack London State Historic Park, and the open space of the former Sonoma Developmental Center, all managed by the state agency.

The prescribed burns support vegetation management and long-term stewardship efforts, with the goal of reducing potential fuel along strategic fire roads ahead of wildfire season and enhancing grassland habitat.

For safety reasons, some trails and roads near the burn areas will be closed for up to three days during and immediately after each burn.

Park visitors and nearby community members may observe smoke plumes coming from these areas between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. starting Wednesday, June 17, through June 30.

Limited smoke may also be visible up to two days following ignitions.

Parks, campgrounds, and public use areas will remain open on burn days.

For more information, visit the park websites at sugarloafpark.org or jacklondonpark.com.
