Ridley Scott is all set to direct a biopic on the iconic music group, The Bee Gees.
According to sources, the film is currently in its development stage, and as of now, there is no official release date.
The only living member of The Bee Gees and Gibb brothers, Barry Gibb, will serve as an executive producer. The film will be produced by Graham King, Stacey Snider, Michael Pruss, and Ridley Scott himself.
The Bee Gees, consisting of Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb, were born in the UK and later moved to Australia.
The musical trio gained fame for their mastery of various music genres, from romantic ballads to funk and disco tracks.
Their big break came in 1977 when they were approached to create music for the film 'Saturday Night Fever.' The iconic soundtrack featured hits like 'Stayin' Alive,' 'How Deep Is Your Love,' and 'You Should Be Dancing.'
The Bee Gees continued to produce popular music in the early 80s but gradually lost their momentum as the disco era faded.
Despite this, the group continued to thrive due to their die-hard fan base who admired their musical talents and songwriting skills. The Bee Gees are estimated to have sold over 120 million records.
The band's musical journey came to an end with the passing of Maurice due to a heart attack in 2003, followed by Robin's death due to cancer in 2012.
His brother, Andy Gibb, who pursued a solo career, passed away at 30 due to myocarditis accompanied by a heart attack.
This isn't the first time The Bee Gees have ventured into the world of cinema. In 1978, they appeared in 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' a musical film alongside Peter Frampton, a 1970s pop star.
The film received poor reviews, with critics panning it for discrediting The Beatles' iconic album that inspired it.
The Bee Gees' story was adapted into an HBO documentary titled 'The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart' directed by Frank Marshall.
Released in 2020, the documentary received a more positive response from audiences and critics compared to the film.
