Sam Bankman-Fried's Next Move: Launching a New Token Post-Prison

Sam Bankman-Fried's future in the crypto world may be uncertain, but he's already planning his next move post-prison. According to reports, the FTX co-founder has floated the idea of launching a new token, a move that could potentially revive his entrepreneurial spirit.

The idea was shared by fellow inmate David Bunevacz, who claimed that Bankman-Fried often spoke about the need for tens of millions of dollars to build a successful business. Upon hearing about Bankman-Fried's plans after release, Bunevacz reportedly stated that the disgraced entrepreneur would start a token, which would attract a significant following.

Bankman-Fried's passion for the crypto space remains unwavering despite his legal troubles. In February 2024, The New York Times reported that he shared crypto-related views with prison guards, offering advice on investing in Solana.

The recent federal appeals court ruling has, however, thrown a major roadblock in Bankman-Fried's path to overturning his conviction. The court upheld his 2023 fraud conviction, rejecting arguments that the trial judge constrained his defense. Prosecutors maintained that customer funds were diverted to cover losses at Alameda Research, a claim supported by testimony from former FTX insiders who cooperated with authorities.

The ruling has left Bankman-Fried facing a prolonged prison term, with the possibility of serving time until around 2044. Any return to the crypto industry seems unlikely in the near term, unless he achieves legal relief or a presidential pardon. It's worth noting that he has formally applied for clemency, as per records on the Justice Department's Pardon Attorney Office website.
