The Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool in Washington, D.C. is once again facing a green issue.
Although recently refilled and repainted, the reflecting pools in front of the Lincoln Memorial are turning green again due to residual algae.
The algae was visible from the water's edge a day after the reservoir was filled, with workers seen clearing algae from the bottom of the pool last week.
An Interior Department spokesperson explained that the algae is residual and a normal part of the early process of restarting operations at the reflecting pool.
The spokesperson stated, 'What you are seeing is residual algae from the supply lines, which have been sitting dormant for eight weeks while construction has been taking place. It's part of the normal startup process. We are removing the algae, and the nanobubblers will maintain the pool and keep it algae free.'
A state-of-the-art ozone nanobubbler filtration system was recently installed by the National Park Service to prevent algae growth.
The Trump administration had previously touted the newly renovated Reflecting Pool, with President Trump highlighting the $14.2 million project in public remarks.
Taking pride in the newly renovated Reflecting Pool, the White House said, 'The water is ON, the Reflecting Pool is reflecting, and D.C. is looking better than ever.'
The Reflecting Pool is an iconic site in Washington, D.C. that holds over 6.5 million gallons of water and was originally built in the 1920s.
Despite being recently renovated, the reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is turning green once more due to residual algae.
