Who Is Gianni Infantino's Wife Leena Al Ashqar? Unveiling the Mystique Behind FIFA's President

Gianni Infantino's decade-long tenure as the most scrutinized figure in world sports is a tale of intrigue, power struggles, and controversy. In contrast, his wife, Leena Al Ashqar, has masterfully navigated the shadows, keeping her private life shrouded in mystery. The Lebanese businesswoman has successfully dodged the spotlight, leaving only a few, carefully curated glimpses into her life, making her one of the most enigmatic spouses linked to a global sports leader.

The narrative of their union originates from their early encounters within the Lebanese Football Federation, where Al Ashqar worked on administrative and event-planning tasks in the early 2000s. As Infantino, a then UEFA lawyer, crossed paths with her through football's governing structures, their connection transcended into a long-term partnership. They exchanged vows in 2001 and initially settled in Brig, Switzerland, Infantino's hometown. The early years of their marriage were marked by Al Ashqar's dedication to her career and her role as a supportive partner to Infantino as his career in sports administration began to take shape.

The discrepancies in reporting Al Ashqar's birth year, ranging from the early 1970s to the late 1970s, and her birth nationality, with some stating she's Lebanese-born and others claiming she's Swiss-born to a Lebanese family, highlight the intricacies of her private life. One fact, however, remains constant – she proudly holds Lebanese heritage, practices Islam, and has chosen to keep a low media profile throughout her husband's FIFA presidency, showcasing a level of dedication to maintaining her family's private life that is truly remarkable. This level of discretion has not gone unnoticed, and some have even speculated that it is a deliberate strategy employed by the couple to keep Infantino's personal and professional lives distinct.

Behind closed doors, the Infantino-Al Ashqar family has grown, with the couple sharing four daughters: Shania Serena, Alessia, Dhalia Nora, and Sabrina. Notable among their personal milestones is the reported illness of their youngest child during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The brief period of public attention focused on the family at this time provided a fleeting glimpse into their private world. It is worth noting that such moments of vulnerability are rare in the Infantino-Al Ashqar family's otherwise tightly guarded personal lives.

The Infantinos have relocated to Doha, Qatar, around 2021, amidst widespread speculation about Al Ashqar's potential involvement in Qatar-based companies. While no evidence has emerged to confirm these claims, the move further underscores the couple's adaptability and flexibility in their pursuit of maintaining a work-life balance in an environment heavily scrutinized by the global sports community. Al Ashqar's participation at notable FIFA events, for instance, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, highlights her continued role as an important figure behind the scenes, supporting her husband through the trials and tribulations of his position.

Much has been said about Infantino's character, his decisions as FIFA president, and the global impact of his leadership. While Al Ashqar's involvement in her husband's career is undeniable, her own contributions and impact on their shared legacy remain an area ripe for exploration and speculation. By choosing to keep a low profile, Al Ashqar has undoubtedly avoided public scrutiny, allowing the global spotlight to continue shining brightly on Infantino. Yet, this careful balancing act of maintaining a private life amidst her husband's highly public profile is an intriguing aspect of their marriage and partnership.
