Heartbreak at Le Mans: Sebastien Bourdais Opens Up About Cadillac's Crushing Failure

Sebastien Bourdais has expressed his devastation after a power steering failure forced his team to retire from the 2026 Le Mans 24 Hours. The #38 Cadillac, shared by Bourdais, Jack Aitken, and Earl Bamber, was a strong contender for victory before the issue arose.

The failure occurred shortly after 4am, with Bourdais at the wheel. Despite his best efforts to nurse the car back to the pits, the issue proved terminal. Bourdais described the experience as a 'dagger in the heart', highlighting the disappointment and frustration that comes with such a setback.

Reflecting on the race, Bourdais acknowledged that his team had a strong car and that their strategy had been executed well. However, the power steering failure was an unforeseen circumstance that ultimately decided their fate. Bourdais emphasized that sometimes, despite the best preparations and performances, races can be decided by factors beyond one's control.

With this being his 19th appearance at the French classic, Bourdais once again missed out on the opportunity to claim overall victory at the Circuit de la Sarthe. His only win at Le Mans came in the GTE Pro category back in 2016.

Despite the disappointment, Bourdais chose to focus on the positives, praising his teammates and the team's overall performance. He noted that they had given themselves a chance to win, which is all one can ask for at Le Mans.
